It was only a matter of time: Fangoria, generally known as the monthly bible for the passionate gorehound, has always tried to branch out into new and blood-soaked directions (video distribution, awards shows, etc.), but this one’s a doozy. Looks like the powers-that-be will be putting together their very own production arm — so get ready for Fangoria Films! (Hey, I bet they’ll have a better track record than Platinum Dunes, Dark Castle and Ghost House!)
Combined with CAA and a former Paramount/New Line exec named Brian Witten, Fangoria Films will start with a nest egg of about $100 million, which they’ll use to start producing a handful of movies each year. The plan is to partner up with a few of the bigger distributors on a flick-by-flick basis. (I’m guessing that Rogue, Dimension, Lionsgate and Fox Atomic find this news pretty intriguing.) Longtime Fango chief Tony Timpone offers a quote that I find perfectly endearing: “We want to be the Disney of horror.” Sounds good to me, Tony — but if I have to remind you guys to stay away from that PG-13 rating more than once…..we’re going to have a problem. Also, here’s a fair question: will Fangoria: The Magazine be reviewing the Fangoria Films releases?
On the subject of Witten’s genre qualifications, here’s the bad news: he oversaw production on Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, The Corruptor and The Astronaut’s Wife. Here’s the good news: Spawn, Dark City and Final Destination. Plus the guy obviously loves the scary stuff, so I call this pretty good news across the board. Good luck, Fango Films, and if you need a speedy script-polisher, you know where to find me.

I’m sure all guys who write comments are teens or even younger. If you are older, than shame on you!
Fortunately, it’s still funny.
